Preprimary Caribbean Island Festival

Each year, the Preprimary holds an annual end-of-year Caribbean Island Festival! The morning includes authentic Caribbean staples and dishes inspired by the Islands of the Caribbean and Central America. Enjoy music, dance and fun. If there is Caribbean-inspired dish you enjoy preparing or eating, please do not hesitate to share it with our community.

Honest Conversations – June 12

honest conversation.fwJoin us this Sunday, June 122-4 p.m., for the last Honest Conversations gathering of the school year. Come early (1:15) and bring ideas if you want to get in on the planning for next year.

We will meet at Kenwood Park, just south of Ancona on Dorchester Ave., between 49th and 50th streets. Bring your kids, lawn chairs or a picnic blanket, snacks and beverages, and any playground equipment you might want. Kenwood park has public restrooms, two playgrounds, tennis courts, sand, and a baseball/kickball diamond.

End of Year Picnic Canceled

With so much going on this time of year, we decided to cancel our picnic that was scheduled for this Saturday, June 5th. While this event was taken off the calendar in April,  an official announcement had not yet been made. We hope your families take this time to relax and enjoy Chicago in all its Springtime glory!

Longtime Ancona Facilities Team Member Retires

Ancona will said goodbye to one of its longtime employees at the end of this school year. Custodian Don Luis Flores will retire after being with Ancona for 12 years.

Luis works the afternoon and evening shifts and is a part of the wonderful team that makes Ancona sparkle each morning. He will be missed by all the staff, parents and students. If you happen to see him during after school hours, please share a warm farewell to our dear friend.

Ancona Parent Desiree Lynch Receives Honor

A huge congrats to Ancona parent and dedicated volunteer Desiree Lynch who was DESIREEnamed the 2016 Barbara Harelik Award recipient. Established in 1996, the Harelik Award honors a volunteer’s consistent pattern of commitment in two or more significant areas of school life over a given number of years.

The Harelik Award Reception occurs at the end of each academic year in conjunction with the Town Meeting and is an opportunity for all parents, teachers and trustees to recognize the efforts of one exceptional parent volunteer, and show our gratitude to all volunteers of Ancona.

We are thankful for the support and dedication that all of our volunteers bring to the overall success of our school.  A huge thank you to Desiree for her generosity and time. It makes a tremendous impact on our students’ experiences and opportunities. Please congratulate Desiree for her commitment to everything Ancona!
