Music

Ancona’s music education program includes two teachers, one full-time and one part-time. Each teacher approaches the whole child with a passion for teaching music and helping the child find the power of his or her own voice. Children who start in preschool work their way through a specially designed sequence of activities that help them to become musically literate and able to enter a variety of high school musical classes, such as choir, band, jazz ensembles, and musical theater, with success. The music program is committed to developing and cultivating individual talents and practice habits in each student. We want every student who leaves our school to be able to read music, to have been exposed to a number of different styles of music and to be able to produce and enjoy music. Our main goal is to inspire a love of music in all students.

Music performances from preschool through eighth grade give each student an opportunity to play and sing in ensembles. Assemblies give students the chance to observe their peers as they learn to perform and present before an audience. Assemblies also function as a service to the school community and provide opportunities for student leadership. Students audition for solos in various ensembles, chorus, and band. We have two evening middle school concerts during the school year, one in the winter and one in the spring. We have an after-school chorus that performs regularly at assemblies, and after-school piano and guitar lessons are also available for students.
