The success of every classroom is dependent upon the mix of children’s personalities, strengths and educational needs.
Because our program is built on the Montessori model that allows children to remain in the same class over several years, approximately two-thirds of each preprimary class and one-half of each primary class are children returning for a second or third year. New students are, therefore, placed according to the makeup of the already established groups. We seek a balance of gender, ethnicity and temperament along with consideration of existing friendships, leadership opportunities and social or learning issues that might require the teacher’s particular attention.
These assignments are announced in mid-July. Middle school advisories are announced through letters to students in early August.
