Please check your child’s head throughout the year to check for nits. The best way to check is with a fine toothed metal comb.

Lice Tips and Facts

  • Lice cannot jump, fly or swim and are only spread by head to head contact.
  • If your child has long hair, tight hairdos (buns, ponytails, braids, etc.) help to lessen the possibility of your child getting lice.
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that “a healthy child should not be restricted from attending school because of head lice or nits (eggs)…[If a child discovers that they have lice while at school,] they can finish the school day, be treated, and return to school.” While Ancona will always notify a parent if lice is discovered, your child does not have to leave school.

If you see lice or nits, please contact us so we can alert the school community (we never share a particular child’s name). The two links below provide additional information regarding lice ands treatment options.
