By |2018-12-17T11:34:14-06:00August 27th, 2015|Parent News|0 Comments

AnconaBefore – 7:15 a.m. – 7:45 a.m.
An option for many families exists before the school day. Beginning at 7:15 a.m., elementary students in AnconaBefore mentor our youngest students in the preprimary. They prepare and enjoy breakfast together and engage in community activities to ready them for the Montessori work of the day.  To participate in AnconaBefore, 1st-8th graders must arrive between 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.

AnconaAfter – 3:00 – 5:45 p.m.
AnconaAfter provides a safe and nurturing environment where students learn and play in a less structured program than that of the school day. In addition to programs centered on art, theater, and dance, Ancona students who register for AnconaAfter this year will be offered a variety of dynamic programs including performance poetry, analog and digital makers classes, soccer, basketball, yoga, and philosophical debate offered by Winning Words, a program of the Civic Knowledge Project and the University of Chicago.

Whats new?

In the past, AnconaAfter offered a la carte classes for additional fees. This year, all classes are included in the cost for after school programming.

From the Head of School

By |2018-12-17T11:34:18-06:00August 19th, 2015|Parent News|0 Comments

Ari_blue_high res (1)Dear Ancona Community:

The first day of school is brewing. Floors are shiny, colors are popping, teachers are planning and we’re saving the rest as surprises rolling out over the year. Below are a few updates to reacquaint you with Ancona!

Outdoor Learning Space (OLS)
OLS is getting its new school clothes, but unlike our students, it’s arriving to school late. If you haven’t been on any of our social feeds, take a look at this fascinating footage to the right.

I want to personally thank our Camp and All Year Montessori families who have been patiently waiting and now watching the progress. Your support and flexibility does not go unrecognized.

Strategic Sights
After we surveyed parents and teachers in the spring, the board met to recommend priority areas for change. A Strategic Planning Task Force has been hard at work all summer, and we will be unveiling our 3-year strategic goals in the fall for all of us to approve together. These goals affect the education program (e.g., science, institutional partnerships, the arts), fiscal strength, economic diversity, enrollment and retention, facilities (e.g., classrooms, science, lobby, design space, cleanliness), communications, and community. Achieving these goals together will improve the school, increase enrollment, and raise our common spirit for the school and community we all depend on. Stay tuned!

A Remarkable Year Ahead
There are new faces among our staff and students, and I’ll count myself among them. Stop by my office and say hello! This is the year of Science Fair, Chinese New Year, Project-Based Learning and more. As many new things as there are, we are still the Ancona that your kids love, and the turtles, butterflies and Ancona yellow will all welcome you back with me. See you at the front door and at the upcoming Ice Cream Social.

Ari Frede,

Head of School
