Sarah has spent her teaching career in small, student centered, progressive schools—now at Ancona and previously in the Washington DC area. She began at Friend’s Community School teaching 1st and 2nd grade for eleven years and then other multi level grades as well. She wrote curriculum, developed a portfolio program, trained at the Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Project, piloted Everyday Math, and became an Everyday Math consultant. She moved to the Sheridan School as they transitioned to a more progressive curriculum. In collaboration with her co-teacher, Sarah had the opportunity to rewrite the 6th grade curriculum to reflect her reading and writing workshop experience and her interest in inquiry based social justice learning. Sarah grew up in Evanston and now lives in New Buffalo with two of her three children where they spend lots of time by the lake: walking the dunes, fishing, and swimming!
